Governors and parliamentarians from 8 states go to Brasília in the final stretch of the tax reform – 07/03/2023 – What tax is this

Governors and parliamentarians from the states of the South, Southeast and Mato Grosso do Sul will meet this Tuesday night (4th) in Brasília to discuss the tax reform. A statement by the participants is expected at the end of the meeting.

At least four of these governors want to postpone the vote scheduled for this week to the second half of the year, as reported by the column Panel SA, of the Sheet.

Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ), Eduardo Leite (PSDB-RS), Eduardo Riedel (PSDB-MS), Jorginho Mello (PL-SC), Ratinho Júnior (PSD-PR), Renato Casagrande (PSB- ES), Romeu Zema (Novo-MG) and Tarcísio Freitas (Republicanos-SP), in addition to deputies and senators from the benches of these regions.

The event is promoted by Codesul (South Development and Integration Council) and Cosud (South and Southeast Integration Consortium).

One of the main points of divergence between the states is the Federative Council that will administer the new tax that will replace the main taxes of the states and municipalities.

In a meeting last Friday (30th) at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in the capital of São Paulo, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB-SP) and businessmen from the service sector closed their position against the current version of the tax reform .

On the previous Monday (26), the governor defended the need to revise the text presented last week, especially with regard to the creation of a federative council, with management shared by states, the Federal District and municipalities, which would centralize the collection of the new IBS (Tax on Goods and Services), a tax that unifies the state ICMS with the municipal ISS.
