The government will extend for 240 months the deadline for city halls and states to pay previous debts of their own regimes with Social Security, said this Wednesday (26) Minister Carlos Lupi (Social Security).
Lupi attended the Chamber’s CFFC (Financial Inspection and Control Commission) this Wednesday morning (26). According to the minister, the supplementary bill with the new term is in the Civil House and should be signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) “at any time”.
“By law, the states had to adapt to reality by creating their own regime,” he said. “Dozens of mayors came to me, most of them unable to pay the debt. It’s already been proposed, it’s already in the Civil House, at any time the president [Lula] must sign.”
The ministry estimates that these debts exceed R$ 50 billion. Lupi stated that the project resumes the measure adopted years ago.
“A new regime period, which can reach 20 years, so that those who have to pay that previous regime, who cannot afford it, have an installment payment for that debt for everyone, there is no discrimination, as long as the mayor or the government of states are committed to catching up on those they are doing now,” he said.
“With this, we are going to give oxygen so that the city halls survive and are not prevented from receiving other federal resources, even amendments, because they do not have that specific certificate so that they can receive those amendments, these resources.”
