The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), said this Tuesday (7) that the government intends to negotiate the salary readjustment of public service categories later this year, to replace part of the inflationary losses accumulated by the freeze that has already reached six years in some sectors, such as Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) and IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), among others.

According to the minister, the objective is to “take the grenade out of your pocket”, in reference to a statement given by the former Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, at a ministerial meeting in 2020. At the time, the economist was celebrating a law that authorized a bailout to states and municipalities at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had the condition of freezing readjustments.

The new government’s intention is to apply a linear percentage for the categories, around 4.85%, according to the value foreseen in the 2023 Budget, of R$ 11.6 billion. “The careers of the other Powers had readjustments approved at the end of last year, except for the Executive Power. It is an injustice with the workers of the Federal Executive”, said Esther Dweck, Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services at a ceremony at the ministry.
