Government says BB will cancel sponsorship of Agrishow – 04/28/2023 – Market

The federal government canceled Banco do Brasil’s sponsorship of the Agrishow (International Fair of Agricultural Technology in Action), in Ribeirão Preto, after the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, was excluded from the event due to the confirmation of the presence of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“To the extent that the event loses its institutional character and to the extent that there was this discourtesy towards the minister and the Bank of Brazil that would accompany him to the event, sponsorship is no longer justified”, says the Minister of the Communication, Paulo Pimenta.

Fávaro was expected to be at the opening of Agrishow, the main reference in agricultural technology in Latin America, but the minister decided not to attend.

It is tradition that the holder of Agriculture attends the first day of the event, especially at the beginning of new governments.

On Tuesday (25), a conversation between the management of Agrishow and Fávaro ended in an impasse. The president of the fair, Francisco Matturro, informed the minister that Bolsonaro would participate in the opening and that this could cause some turmoil or embarrassment due to demonstrations against the government — agribusiness, for the most part, supported Bolsonaro in last year’s election.

According to report to SheetMatturro suggested that Fávaro attend the fair on Tuesday (2), when there will be a meeting of the FPA (Agricultural Parliamentary Front).

The conversation displeased the minister and, since then, the government has considered not participating in the event.

The absence will frustrate the sector, as there was an expectation that the portfolio holder would announce lines of credit for agribusiness and give details of the elaboration of the Crop Plan 2023/24, which should be announced in June.

Lula was no longer expected, but there was an expectation that he would also be represented by his deputy, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), former governor of São Paulo and who was a regular visitor to the event.

The invitation for Bolsonaro to visit Ribeirão came from the president of the Rural Union of Ribeirão Preto, Paulo Junqueira, who also chairs the Rural Association of Ribeirão and is vice president of Assovale (Rural Association Vale do Rio Pardo).

The trip to Agrishow will mark the former president’s first trip after returning to the country. Bolsonaro is due to land at Ribeirão airport in the early afternoon of Sunday (30), but his schedule has not yet been released.

Ruralists said he will participate in a barbecue on a farm. In social networks and cell phone application groups, supporters of the former president have claimed that he could participate in a motociata, a meeting with his political base and even the last day of Ribeirão Rodeo Music, which takes place in the city.
