Government opens conversation about minimum wage with unions – 03/30/2023 – Panel SA

The working group set up by the government to discuss raising the minimum wage will have its first meeting on Monday (3).
At the table will be representatives of seven government ministries, coordinated by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, in addition to seven indicated by union centrals, such as CUT and Força Sindical.
The expectation of the trade unionists is to set up the guidelines for a policy to readjust the minimum wage for next year. The possibility of recovering the correction rule by linking GDP variation and INPC (National Consumer Price Index), the current index, is being studied.
The measure was established by Lula in 2007 and became law in 2012, when it started to consider the INPC of the previous year and the GDP variation of two years before. The rule was in effect until the first year of the Bolsonaro government, which no longer gave real adjustments, resuming the formula only in the last year of the mandate.
The unionists are also going to demand from the government a way to replace the two years in which Bolsonaro failed to consider the GDP variation in the readjustments of the minimum wage.
