Government of SP wants highway and subway concessions until 2026 – 06/06/2023 – Market

The government of the state of São Paulo announced this Tuesday (6) the beginning of the structuring of concession projects for around 2,000 kilometers of highways and five train and subway lines that could generate investments of around R$ 42.3 billion .

The expectation of the state government is that up to 11 auctions will be held by the end of 2026, from the structuring of the projects.

The privatization of the sanitation company Sabesp is on the agenda, the government said, although studies that are in charge of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on the viability of the operation are not ready.

IFC is also working on surveys on highways and train and subway lines. After this step, the projects will be structured, with more robust research to define the ideal model for each proposal, the state government said in a press release.

In highways, the government of São Paulo is evaluating the structure of stretches currently granted and others under the administration of the state department DER in the interior, coast and Greater São Paulo. The forecast is to attract investments of around R$ 32.3 billion.

The proposal for trains and subways involves the concession of lines and the creation of public-private partnerships (PPPs) for the expansion of railway branches. The assessment covers lines 10-Turquoise, 11-Coral, 12-Safira, 13-Jade and the future 14-Onyx of Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM). The investment forecast is R$ 11 billion, according to the government.

In addition, in the future portfolio is the proposal for a Public-Private Partnership for the implementation of the Intercidades Eixo Oeste Train, which will connect the capital of São Paulo to Sorocaba (SP) and should receive resources in the order of R$ 9 billion.
