The project aims to make the southern region of Amazonas a center for the production of grains, inputs and a logistics corridor

Manaus (AM) – The Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat for Rural Production (Sepror), signed, on Friday (2nd), a Memorandum of Intent with the company Zagaia Agro Ltda., making official the conditions and negotiations for structuring and implementing the “Projeto Zagaia” together with the Amazonian government, covering the Industrial, Port and Logistic Hub of Humaitá (590 km from Manaus), with the aim of making the southern region of the state a hub for the production of grains, inputs and a logistics corridor, through a consortium of producers.

The act took place in the office of the head of Sepror, Petrucio Magalhães Júnior, with the presence of secretary Marco Antônio Villela, from the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), and Ulisses Albuquerque, regional director of Zagaia Agro , who also signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Petrucio Magalhães Júnior emphasized that “Governor Wilson Lima has a very different look at the southern region. It is a region of great sustainable agro potential, capable of reconciling food production with socio-biodiversity”.

Petrucio sees the company, author of the project, as an anchor in this process. “Zagaia Agro should attract investors from the agroindustry, whether in inputs or processing for everything that is produced in the region, such as fish and fruits and grains. We can also highlight the support of the local government, through the hub of tambaqui fingerlings and other species. It is an undertaking that is located close to the Madeira waterway, destined to generate many jobs and thus increase the state’s GDP, diversifying its economic matrix and internalizing development, that is, making possible everything that the Amazonian government’s policy advocates within the Program Agroamazonas”, he concluded.

The holder of Sedecti, in turn, noted that the development of southern Amazonas is one of the government’s goals in the last four years.

“Governor Wilson Lima’s determination is to make the economic growth of all municipalities in that region viable, and Humaitá is among them, hence our initiative that may meet this objective”,

stated.

In turn, Ulisses Albuquerque, regional director of the Zagaia Project, highlighted that “the undertaking, already in the execution phase, will be a great advance in the port system, services and support to the sustainable agricultural sector in the south of Amazonas, and had the attention of the Wilson Lima government since it was presented to Sedecti and the Sepror System”.

Also participating in the act were the manager of Investment Attraction at the Secretariat for Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), Felipe Litaiff; Sedecti advisor Tayana Rubin; the Executive Secretary for Fisheries and Aquaculture at Sepror, Alessandro Cohen; the Deputy Executive Secretary for Agricultural, Livestock and Forestry Policy at Sepror, Airton Schneider; Sepror advisor, Sebastião Guerreiro, from Sepror; the consultant and coordinator of the Zagaia Project, Renato Bondimam; and the director of the Eram Shipyard, responsible for the naval structure of the Zagaia Project in Humaitá, Johnson Rabelo.
