Government may block 20 thousand Brazilians who benefit from Bolsa Família

The government will implement measures to block the payment of Bolsa Família to beneficiaries with irregularities in their CPF or Single Registry (CadÚnico). With more than 21 million families receiving the benefit this month, worth an average of R$680, around 20 thousand people face registration problems.

Irregularities in the CPF may be related to issues such as outdated data from the Federal Revenue Service, lack of justification for voting, multiple CPFs associated with the same name, pending issues in the Income Tax declaration or divergence of ownership in the government registry.

The possibility of a blockade occurs in a year in which the government struggles to balance public accounts and seeks ways to increase revenue to eliminate the fiscal gap. Bolsa Família alone is expected to consume R$169.5 billion in 2024.

The government warns families about the need to update their information. To check pending issues or ensure regularity, beneficiaries must access the Federal Revenue website, choose the option “Consult CPF” and enter the document number and date of birth.

Regularization can be carried out directly at the Federal Revenue Service, offering three options: via the website in the “My CPF” area, updating and regularizing the CPF; through the IRS email address in each state; or at in-person service stations, with detailed information available on the official IRS website.

It is worth noting that, after regularization of the CPF, payment of Bolsa Família may be resumed, even after the blockade. However, it is crucial that beneficiaries are aware, as definitive cancellation will occur if the registration is not normalized within six months.

The federal government released this Tuesday (26) the Bolsa Família payment schedule for next year. Transfers will begin on January 18th and the last installment for 2024 will be paid on December 23rd.
