Government honors Amazonian writers at the Public Library

Manaus (AM) – The Public Library of Amazonas will host, starting this Friday (01/09), at 6 pm, the first of a series of tributes to Amazonian writers. Led by Márcio Souza, writer and director of libraries at the Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, the event aims to promote a meeting between the entire literary community of Amazonas.

The first person honored in the series is the writer and politician Álvaro Maia. The action is carried out by the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy in partnership with Academia Amazonense de Letras. The goal is to remember the memory and works of renowned writers so that everyone can use them as learning.

Álvaro Maia, an outstanding Amazonian writer, journalist and politician, left an important legacy, having been a tireless defender of the natural riches of our region. In his political career, he dedicated himself to the cause of environmental preservation in the Amazon. His works and actions had a significant impact on valuing and conserving the rich cultural heritage of the Amazon. He was governor of the state and senator for Amazonas.

Márcio Souza, who will lead the lecture addressing various aspects of the life and work of Álvaro Maia, is a renowned Brazilian writer, known for his vast literary production. His works masterfully portray the culture and identity of the Amazon region, winning admirers both inside and outside Brazil.

‘Faith and hope’

For Márcio, the choice of Álvaro Maia to inaugurate the series is justified by the fact that he was an important figure in the transition from a period of economic and social decay that the Amazon was experiencing.

“He, already out of politics, but still with great prestige, read his text ‘Canção de fé e Espera’ at the Teatro Amazonas, imprinting a hopeful vision on the future of our state”,

says Márcio Souza.

The aim of bringing together guests from Manaus society to discuss the biography and work of the state’s great writers is to disseminate them among readers of Amazonas so that they are curious to know the works of the most important authors in the state.

“Each month, we will have an author being debated by teachers and readers of Manaus, with the presence of the author himself, when he was a living author, debating with the public”,

explains Márcio Souza.

“The Public Library of Amazonas, in addition to being one of the most beautiful in the country, has a very rich collection of authors from Amazonas. Those who are interested, after participating in the events, will have the opportunity to get to know the very work that was discussed”,

says the writer.
