President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made official this Tuesday (16) the referral to the Senate of the government’s nominations to two directorates of the Central Bank.

According to the order published by the Diário Oficial da União, the names of the current executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Gabriel Galípolo, and the chief auditor of the Central Bank, Ailton de Aquino Santos, are available for analysis by senators (see full).

Galípolo was suggested by Fernando Haddad to occupy the position of director of monetary policy, and Aquino for the supervisory directorate of the monetary authority. If approved by the Senate, they also become part of the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), responsible for formulating the basic interest rate – a point of friction between Lula and Roberto Campos Neto, president of the Central Bank.
