Two economists linked to the PT in the Senate and in the Presidency will assume posts. Foreign Trade Chamber deals with issues such as taxation of imports and attraction of investments. The Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government dismissed this Wednesday (15) former Navy commander Almir Garnier Santos and former Minister of Science and Technology Marcos Pontes from the executive committee of the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex). Camex is linked to the Ministry of Finance and is responsible for formulating and implementing actions related to the country’s foreign trade – changes in import rates and strategies to attract foreign investment, for example. Garnier and Pontes had been appointed to Camex by former President Jair Bolsonaro. It is common for members of other areas of the government to be called to compose this committee, depending on the emphasis given by each government to imports and exports from specific areas. The Lula government nominated two economists linked to the PT and the Presidency for the vacancies: Rodrigo Alves Teixeira, a career analyst at the Central Bank and current member of the Special Secretariat for Government Analysis (SAG) of the Civil House; Bruno Moretti, economist and former advisor to the PT leadership in the Senate.
