Collection of PIS/Cofins and Cide was suspended since March last year. Taxes will be collected again from this Wednesday (1st). The government detailed this Tuesday (28) how the collection of federal taxes levied on gasoline and ethanol will be carried out. After meetings and impasses between the political wing and the economic wing on the subject, the Ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced the return of taxes from Wednesday (1st). “We have a clear objective, which is to rebuild the public budget,” said Haddad. The collection of PIS/Cofins and Cide had been suspended since March last year. The suspension should have lasted only until the end of 2022. However, in January of this year, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) extended the federal tax exemption for gasoline and ethanol until February 28. The decision, taken on Monday (28), was for the return of tax collection, but in a formula in which the expected collection of R$ 28.9 billion was maintained, without harming the consumer so much. The formula, however, was only detailed this Tuesday by the government, more than 24 hours after the announcement of the return of tax collection.
