The Ministry of Ports and Airports promises reduce loading and unloading tariffs at the ports of Santos (SP) and Rio de Janeiro. In the port of São Paulo, fees can reach a reduction of up to 65%, according to information published by the Port Authority of Santos (APS). In some cases, however, the reduction of tariffs can reach up to 95%.
The announcement of the reduction was posted on Twitter by Minister Márcio França, of Ports and Airports, alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), this Saturday (17). In the video, the minister mentions that the reduction of tariffs is important for reducing inflation.
“The ports that were private raised taxes and we, in the public ports, are going to reduce loading and unloading fees”, says França. Afterwards, Lula reinforces that the measure aims to lower production costs from the country. For the government, the measure makes public terminals more competitive.
According to the APS, the calculation of the rate in Santos will be done according to the navigation type and the frequency of use of the terminal by the vessel. The idea of APS is to “loyalty” the user. In Santos, the so-called “green vessels”, which have a positive score on the Ship Environmental Index, will pay even lower rates.
PortosRio, which manages the public ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói and Angra dos Reis, carried out a readjustment in the collection of port fees. The value, which was calculated according to the capacity of the vessels, regardless of whether they were loaded or not, is now calculated according to the type and weight of the cargo and the type of navigation, with discounts that can reach 95%.
The reduction still needs to be published in the Official Gazette (DOU).
