Google launches BRL 10 million fund for independent games – 06/27/2023 – Market

Alphabet’s Google has launched a fund of around R$10 million to support independent game developers in Latin America, the company said this Tuesday (27) during the Google for Brazil event.

The support, which is in its second edition, will benefit ten Latin American game developers and studios that have already released a game on any platform, said the technology company, which only considers companies with less than 50 employees for selection.

The Indie Games Fund will also offer technical support, training and follow-up to the winners, who must make their game available on the Google Play app store and offer it on the Google Play Pass subscription service.

Google Play generated BRL 4 billion in developer revenue last year, according to the company’s Economic Impact Report announced during the event.

Other platforms, which include the AdSense advertising division, GoogleCloud cloud computing and Google Play itself, moved BRL 153 billion in Brazil in 2022, according to a report.

Among other initiatives presented during Google for Brazil, the company also announced that it will launch the QRCode payment feature for users of Carteira do Google, the platform’s digital wallet, in the country.

The modality, announced by the president of Google Brazil, Fabio Coelho, and which will be launched in the coming months, will allow cell phones with the Android operating system to make digital payments with credit and debit cards, even if they do not have NFC proximity communication technology.

“Brazil is a priority market for Google,” said Coelho at the event.
