An almost hidden gate gives access to a charming village, with old buildings surrounded by trees, in Jardim Paulista. Each of them houses a different restaurant, which make up Vilarejo Jardins, a new gastronomic complex that joins other establishments of this type opened in recent years in the capital of São Paulo.
In the 700 m² area, the public orders starters, main dishes, desserts and drinks from any of the cuisines to eat at tables on an outdoor patio. The address has been operating soft-opening since the 17th and has already accumulated queues, receiving around 2,500 people per week.
This movement emerged in mid-2015 with the opening of food parks, spaces that house food trucks. Most were closed in the following years, but addresses such as Calçadão Urbanoides, Lazy Park and Vila Tupiniquim were still in operation.
The practicality of finding restaurants and bars with different options in the same place — being able to choose what to eat right away — is one of the reasons that helps explain the increase in these complexes.
“It’s a trend in the sector that exists abroad, in countries like Portugal and the United States, which already have many gastronomic complexes”, says Guilherme Temperani, from Vila Anália, opened a year and a half ago in the east zone.
These complexes range from large structures, such as Vila Anália, which brings together five kitchens and a pastry shop in one building, to others with smaller spaces, such as Le Quartier, a venture by French chef Claude Troisgros, with two restaurants and a bar. Find out below.
Eataly
Opened in 2015 in Vila Nova Conceição, it was one of the pioneers of the movement. It brings together a market of Italian items, restaurants and bars, distributed in a 4,000 m² building. The new addition is Giro Ristobar, by chef Salvatore Loi, which serves classic Italian recipes with a modern twist. To drink, there is a cocktail bar and wine cellar. In addition to Giro, Pasta & Cucina and Trattoria Italia serve typical Italian recipes. Bistecca highlights Brazilian barbecue and Brace Bar & Griglia, grilled preparations — the restaurant also offers Paulistânia brand draft beers, produced on site. Venchi, on the ground floor, prepares gelatos and sweets. There is also a cafeteria, pizzeria and in-house bakery.

Le Quartier
A charming corner house in Itaim Bibi houses two restaurants and a bar by French chef Claude Troisgros. In June last year, he incorporated the property next to his signature restaurant Chez Claude, originally from Rio de Janeiro, and opened an integrated space. Each restaurant has its own kitchen and decor. In addition to Chez, the new businesses include Bistrot du Quartier, which presents classic French recipes with chef’s touches, in a bistro-like environment. Next door, a long counter welcomes customers at the Bar du Quartier, with a menu developed with the help of Thomas Troisgros, Claude’s son and partner. Signature drinks and forgotten classics are the highlight of the menu. There are expansion plans for next year.

Santo Market
After suffering a fire in 2017 and undergoing renovations, the Santo Amaro municipal market was expanded with a gastronomic space. Reopened in December last year, it now has restaurants with different cuisines, hamburgers, bars and kiosks dedicated to açaí, bread, crepes and pastries, among other items. There are options like Lo Sal Peruano, with a menu of typical dishes from the South American country. In a cable car format, BeerBonde offers German beers and recipes.

Vila Anália
The complex in the east of the city brings together five restaurants and a pastry shop, as well as an emporium. The trendiest at the address, Mii is on the terrace, with an open-air area, and has a Greek-inspired menu. Temperani Cucina takes its name from the family of the founders of the place, of Italian origin, and serves handmade pasta. Susume is the representative of Japanese cuisine. At Merci, the cuisine is French. At the entrance, a showcase displays the sweets prepared by pastry chef Pedro Frade at Confeitaria Caramelo. Finally, the new addition is a branch of the Arabic restaurant Arais do Carlinhos.

Mariana Gastronomic Village
Opened two weeks ago in Vila Mariana, it has 14 gastronomic operations. Among them are The Poke Store, specializing in Japanese food, Mr. Garlic, which sells sandwiches made with garlic paste, Cantina Santa Maria, with artisanal pasta, and Prima Pizza, which serves natural fermentation rounds. In the drinks section, Kento Café prepares coffees with special beans and Soul Hops offers craft beers. In the sweet section, Amollis serves artisanal ice cream, Nella serves cookies, Bake Sale prepares macarons and Pudim Din is dedicated to milk desserts.

Village Gardens
The charming village in Jardim Paulista brings together seven restaurants and bars — customers order starters, main dishes, desserts and drinks at tables spread out in an outdoor patio, surrounded by trees. There are options to eat: Fat Buddah, with Asian food, Cristal Express, an arm of the Cristal pizzeria that serves individual rounds, Carnivoria, dedicated to barbecue, and the Japanese Shuga Zushi, from the same chef as Imakay. In addition to them, there is Olí.via, which serves tapas with olive oil, a central bar with drinks, sake and beers, and a station for wine importer De La Croix. At the entrance is the Brazilian restaurant Duas Terezas, by chef Mariana Pelozio.
