Gasoline price remains stable at gas stations after two falls – 06/30/2023 – Market

The average price of regular gasoline at Brazilian service stations was practically stable this week, at R$5.36 per liter, according to a survey released this Friday (30) by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels).

The variation is equivalent to a drop of R$ 0.01 per liter compared to last week’s survey.

The result of the ANP price survey interrupts the sequence of two consecutive drops in pumps in previous weeks, after a sharp rise in fuel prices under the effect of the change in the ICMS collection model in early June.

This week, the highest price of gasoline found among the capitals was R$ 5.98 per liter in Manaus. The lowest was R$ 4.94 in Macapá.

Petrobras announced, this Friday (30), a new reduction in the prices of gasoline and LPG, cooking gas, for distributors. The cuts take effect at refineries this Saturday (1st). The statement comes a day after the full collection of federal taxes on fuel was returned.

For analysts and industry representatives, the cut seeks to mitigate the impact of the reenonation. According to the state-owned company, the price of gasoline will be reduced by R$ 0.14 per liter at refineries.

In the case of gasoline, the new cut adds to a reduction that had been announced by the state-owned company on June 15, of R$ 0.13, at the time.

This Thursday (29), the old PIS/Cofins and Cide taxes were applied again on gasoline, ethanol and aviation kerosene, according to the Federal Revenue Service.

These taxes had been zeroed by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) close to the 2022 elections and were partially reintroduced by the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government in March of this year.

The full return was expected after the change in Petrobras’ pricing policy, which abandoned the PPI (import parity price) in May.

Fecombustíveis (National Federation of Trade in Fuels and Lubricants) estimated that the reenactment this week could increase the acquisition cost for gas stations by R$ 0.33 per liter of gasoline and R$ 0.22 per liter of hydrous ethanol.

OTHER FUEL

According to the ANP, the price of hydrous ethanol, the main competitor of gasoline, was stable at gas stations this week, with a liter at R$ 3.74.

Generally, ethanol usually accompanies gasoline to maintain a level of competitiveness that attracts the consumer.

The S-10 diesel was also practically stable. The price went from R$ 5.05 to R$ 5.04 per liter.

The price of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), cooking gas, had a slight drop. The value of the 13-kilogram cylinder went from R$ 103.29, last week, to R$ 103.00, this week.

The cost of the product can be equivalent to more than half of the budget of vulnerable families, among the poorest 10% of the Brazilian population, in states such as Pará, Bahia, Piauí and Maranhão.

In other states, such as Ceará, Amazonas and Sergipe, the average price of cylinders represents more than 40% of the income of the poorest 10%.
