g1 publishes reports with the updated population of all 5,570 Brazilian municipalities in the IBGE Census

System developed by Globo automatically displayed data from the IBGE Census in the form of texts, reviewed by the portal’s journalists. Account includes the Federal District and Fernando de Noronha (PE). g1 published reports —created automatically— with the first results of the 2022 IBGE Census for each of the 5,570 Brazilian municipalities. The reports were published from 10 am this Wednesday (28). Thus, readers can find out, among other information: The population of each Brazilian municipality; How much population each city has in relation to the state, region and country; The average number of residents per household in each municipality; The demographic density of each municipality As an example, see here an article with data from the IBGE Census on Petrópolis, in Rio de Janeiro. The disclosure takes place thanks to a system developed by Globo that will automatically transform official data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) into reports. The content will be reviewed by g1 journalists. Videos —with information on each state— will also be included in the reports automatically. It is the first time that the g1 has adopted the technology for Census data. The service has already been used on two other occasions: in 2020, for the first time in municipal elections, and in 2022, in presidential elections. The texts showed the result of the election in each city in the first round and, where there was a vote, in the second round. Both in the case of the Census and the elections, the projects rely on the collaboration of professionals from different areas of Globo. The work ensures that the texts are generated with the correct information extracted from the IBGE and TSE databases. First, the g1 creates the base of a text with the most relevant information to be gathered after the verification. One team was responsible for capturing IBGE data and another, made up of engineers and data scientists, with support from the Technology area, developed a system to allow publication in report format. There was also integration with another area, responsible for the g1 publication system, so that texts can be inserted and made available to journalists. Texts will be reviewed —and supplemented with more information, if necessary— before publication.
