Fundação Estadual do Índio participates in the General Assembly of Chiefs, in Tabatinga

The event was held in the largest indigenous village in Brazil
Representing the State Government, the State Foundation for the Indian (FEI) participated in the 4th General Assembly of Chiefs and Chiefs of Eware I and Eware II, in the indigenous community of Belém do Solimões, the largest indigenous village in the country, located in the municipality of Tabatinga ( 1,108 kilometers from Manaus).
The event took place between May 4th and 7th and had the participation of 41 Chiefs and Chiefs of the Tikuna, Kokama, Kambeba and Kanamarí ethnic groups, in addition to over 300 indigenous people from the Eware I and Eware II Demarcated Indigenous Lands, from the municipalities of Tabatinga, São Paulo de Olivença and Benjamin Constant.
The Assembly was held as a collective effort between governmental and non-governmental institutions such as the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development of the State of Amazonas (Idam), city halls, the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and the Military Police of the State of Amazonas (PMAM ).
The Mamirauá Institute, the Center for Socio-environmental Studies of the Amazon (Nesam), the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Resources (Ibama) and FEI also collaborated, together with the communities with the objective of continuing the work of managing the lakes of Eware I and Eware II in the Assacaia and Tacana sectors.
FEI’s director-president, Sinésio Trovão, accompanied the intersectoral meetings and said that he intends to monitor the current situation in the region to improve the Foundation’s performance in the area.
“One of the concerns of the state governor, Wilson Lima, is to be closer to this region of Amazonas, as there is a significant number of indigenous citizens in Tabatinga and we need to act to respond to demands and be in tune with other spheres of the State that have actions located in Belém do Solimões”.

The issue of education was also addressed in the Assembly, which decided to file a new request with the competent authorities of the Federal Government, especially the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and Education, to request an Indigenous University that operates in person and not online.
During the night, the director-president continued his agenda, meeting with 37 Tikuna leaders in the Feijoal indigenous community to present the role of the Foundation, Trovão’s visit was celebrated by the community.
“We are only 67 days into the administration and we are already showing our work, we want to re-establish contact and strengthen the relationship with the indigenous communities at the base and lead the discussions about the future of relatives from Amazonas”.

The Associação de Desenvolvimento Artístico e Cultural da Aldeia Indígenas de Belém do Solimões is the entity proposing the management of the two sectors of the lakes and also requested the construction of surveillance bases in the communities close to the lakes for the security of the region.
