Fugini receives authorization from Anvisa to sell food – 04/11/2023 – Market

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) revoked, this Monday (10), the decision that suspended the manufacture, marketing, distribution and use of all foods in stock manufactured by Fugini. The company can sell products manufactured from March 27, but there are caveats.

The regulatory agency had suspended the sale of products by the company on that date, after verifying “serious flaws” in hygiene in the manufacture of products during a sanitary inspection at the company’s factory in Monte Alto, São Paulo, 350 kilometers from the capital.

Despite the opinion, Anvisa maintained the suspension of the manufacture of products that contain the main foods that cause food allergies or their derivatives. Tomato pulp used as raw material, manufactured or purchased until March 27th is prohibited from being sold.

The Fugini factory underwent a new sanitary inspection between the 3rd and 5th of April, conducted by CVS-SP (São Paulo Sanitary Surveillance Center) and by the Municipal Sanitary Surveillance of Monte Alto.

The agencies evaluated the reforms in the establishment and the adaptations in the procedures in accordance with the determinations of the sanitary surveillance and considered it able to resume manufacturing.

However, production containing allergenic ingredients still needs to be adequate to prevent contamination. Further evaluation of the quality control documentation of products in stock is required to obtain more information about their safety and quality.

Remember the case of Fugini

On March 27, Anvisa determined the suspension of the manufacture, sale, distribution and use of all products that were in Fugini’s stock.

According to the regulatory agency, the problems were related to hygiene, quality control and safety of raw materials and final product, pest control, traceability, among others.

About the case, Fugini said that the inspection generated an order to change some internal processes and procedures and that the changes requested by Anvisa would have already been carried out.

On March 30, the company announced a recall of batches of mayonnaise after an inspection by Anvisa found the presence of expired annatto in the manufacture of mayonnaise.

The action covers all batches of mayonnaise manufactured between January 1st and March 21st, 2023, and in batches numbered starting with 354, manufactured between December 20th and 31st, 2022. The validity of the batches runs from December 2023 to March from 2024.

In a statement, the company stated that there was an “operational error” and expired annatto was added. The ingredient represents 0.003% of the formulation and does not represent a health hazard, according to Fugini.
