Fugini recalls mayonnaise after Anvisa suspension – 03/30/2023 – Market

Fugini announced this Thursday (30) a recall of lots of mayonnaise after an inspection by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) found the presence of expired annatto in the manufacture of the product.

A Sheet confirmed with the company that the recall is being carried out on all batches of mayonnaise manufactured between January 1st and March 21st, 2023, and on batches with numbers beginning with 354, manufactured between December 20th and 31st, 2022. lots runs from December 2023 to March 2024.

In a statement, Fugini stated that there was an “operational error” and expired annatto was added. The ingredient represents 0.003% of the formulation and does not represent a health hazard, according to the company.

On its official website, Fugini says it sells mayonnaise in five different types of packaging, from 180 grams to 1.7 kg.

Customer service recommended that consumers send photos of the product, with the batch number and manufacturing and expiry date visible.

If the customer does not want to exchange the product, the money will be returned by bank transfer or via Pix, through which the company requests that the key be sent for the transfer of value. On Monday (27), Anvisa announced the suspension of the manufacture, sale, distribution and use of all Fugini brand foods. The decision was taken after a health inspection at the company’s factory in Monte Alto (SP).

The measure is valid only for products in stock and was taken preventively. According to the agency, the inspection found “serious flaws in good manufacturing practices related to hygiene, quality control and safety of raw materials, pest control and traceability” that could impact the “quality and safety of the final product”.

The suspension will be valid until the company adjusts the manufacturing process to good practices, which range from the physical, hygienic and sanitary conditions of the company’s facilities to quality control of raw materials and the final product, including pest control, transport and storage.

Anvisa recommended that consumers and businesses that have lots of mayonnaise not use the product and contact the company.

Fugini was created in 1996 in Monte Alto (SP). Two years later, she became a supplier to the Cica brand, known for its line of tomato sauce. In 2003, Fugini acquired Amendocrem, a famous peanut butter brand.

The company became known for manufacturing ready-to-eat tomato sauce in sachets and expanded its portfolio to include ready-to-eat dishes, sachets or canned vegetables, soups, condiments and preserves.

We are providing a RECALL of the MAIONESE product with the FUGINI brand produced in the Monte Alto/SP plant in the period from 12/20/2022 to 03/21/2023, that is, whose expiration date is December 2023, with batch number starting up from number 354, and any lot with an expiration date in January, February or March 2024.

Due to an operational error, this batch of products was manufactured with the addition of annatto (a natural agent to color the product) which represents 0.003% of the formulation that was past its expiration date.
