Former governor of Rio, Sérgio Cabral used his first exit after being released to meet his newborn grandson, son of José Eduardo Cabral. Serginho was born on February 7, when his grandfather was still under house arrest.
Cabral appeared in a photo sitting on the sofa, with his grandson in his arms and his daughter-in-law at his side.
The former governor had been under house arrest since December, after six years in prison. He was serving his sentence in a family apartment in Copacabana. Now, house arrest will be replaced by precautionary measures, including the use of electronic anklets, passport seizure and monthly court appearances.

While his wife was still pregnant, in November last year, José Eduardo was the target of Operation Smoke Free, by the Federal Police against “an armed and transnational criminal organization specialized in the illegal trade of cigarettes”. On the day of the operation, he could not be found, but he presented himself later.
According to investigations, one of José Eduardo’s roles in the scheme was paying bribes to public officials. He was released less than a month after his arrest, on December 15th.
