The North American food industry General Mills announced that it will expand its operations in Pouso Alegre, in the south of Minas Gerais.
Owner of the Yoki, Kitano and Häagen-Dazs brands, the company already has a presence in the state with a product factory in the city and a distribution center inaugurated less than a year ago in Extrema, also in the same region.
The Pouso Alegre factory is already under construction for printing and will receive more modern equipment. The planned investment is R$ 300 million, but the company did not set a deadline for the operation of the new plant.

With the expansion, the expectation is to generate around 600 new direct jobs and another 400 indirect jobs.
By means of a note, General Mills said it will transfer the activities of the Cambará/PR unit to its plant in Pouso Alegre/MG. “With such movements, the company foresees the closure of activities in Cambará/PR from December 2023”.
The company also informed that it has already started negotiations with employees in Cambará. “To minimize the impacts of this decision, the company has already started negotiations with trade unions seeking to offer, in addition to the legal severance pay, a fair severance package, with salary bonuses, extension of benefits – such as food vouchers and medical assistance , in addition to an extra incentive for performance over the next few months, until the closure of activities in this unit”.
The company will also offer a consultancy with guidelines for professional relocation, in addition to offering several transfer opportunities for employees who are interested in working in Pouso Alegre/MG, he said in a note.
