Following rival Elon Musk, Zuckerberg has a new ‘hobby’

Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Meta, obtained a “learner pilot” license and joins Musk and other tech CEOs venturing into aviation
Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Meta, a technology giant that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has a new ‘hobby’ according to a report published on Saturday (15) by the American website The Information, specialized in technology.
According to a document from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the regulatory body for the aviation industry in the United States, Zuckerberg obtained a “learner pilot” license earlier this year, which already allows him to fly some aircraft in specific situations, under guidance, still in the training phase.
With that, Zuckerberg seems to follow the example of other CEOs of technology companies that have ventured into the world of aviation, such as the also billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Twitter and Tesla – who has fueled a public rivalry with Zuckerberg in recent weeks.
In addition to the two rivals, other technology entrepreneurs are also accredited to fly aircraft, such as Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI (creator company of ChatGPT), and Evan Spiegel, president of Snapchat.
Zuckerberg’s new “hobby” adds to the list of eccentric activities performed by the owner of Meta in his spare time. In May, the entrepreneur showed his first medals won in a jiu-jitsu championship held in California.
Last week, Zuckerberg published a photo on social media in which he showed off his body after a fight training alongside Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Speaking of fighting…
At the end of June, Elon Musk wrote, when interacting with followers on his Twitter account, that he would accept to face Zuckerberg in a fight.
“I’m ready for a fight in the ‘cage’ (“cage”, in English, typical of wrestling) if he’s up for it”
wrote the owner of Twitter.
On Instagram, Zuckerberg published a print of Musk’s messages and wrote: “Send me the location”.
Musk then replied: “Octagon in Vegas”, referring to the American city of Las Vegas, traditional stage of fights of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The owner of Facebook, in turn, published a video in which he appears training jiu-jitsu. He joked: “Starting to prepare for my MMA debut”.
Days later, the American website TMZ reported that the government of Italy would have named the Colosseum in Rome as a possible stage for a fight between the billionaires. The information was denied by the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Threads x Twitter
In recent days, as reported by Metrópoles, Zuckerberg and Musk have returned to exchanging barbs amid the launch of the Threads social network, created to face Twitter.
Zuckerberg, creator of Threads, resorted to a famous Spider-Man meme to mock the owner of Twitter. In the meme, one of the most famous on the internet, the superhero points to a clone of himself.
Musk responded to Zuckerberg’s comment: “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter than to indulge in the false happiness of hiding the pain on Instagram”.
Threads reached the 10 million user mark in just seven hours of operation, according to Zuckerberg.
