Carnival should be a fun and inclusive party, thinking about it, the Secretary of State for Justice, Human Rights and Citizenship (Sejusc) promoted, on Friday (20), the first cry of Carnival with the elderly assisted by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Rights of the Elderly Person (Seadpi). The event took place on the court of the Reino Unido da Liberdade Samba School, in the South Zone of Manaus, and brought together about 600 elderly people.

Promoting citizenship and integration of the elderly, the event featured Carnival bands, marches and leisure activities, such as the samba competition for the opening of the 2023 official carnival, and the election of highlights, in addition to Rei Momo, queen of the drums, king of Carnival, and master room and flag bearer.

Jussara Pedrosa, head secretary at Sejusc, points out that the event is just the beginning of the portfolio’s work this year. “This is my first big event, a wonderful event especially after the pandemic, so I feel very happy for being the first one that I participate in as Sejusc’s secretary. And I say that in our department the elderly have a place, the governor values ​​this, and we are going to strengthen this area”, points out the secretary.

Seadpi’s executive secretary, Luciana Andrade, reinforced the importance of the event for the elderly community. “More than 600 elderly people have passed through here. We are very happy, because it is an event that adds quality of life, inclusion and fun. It is an activity that shines a healthy life and this is very important”, reinforces the secretary.

Participating in carnival for the first time at the age of 65, Vicencia dos Santos comments on participating in the event. “I am part of the Idoso Ativo project, so we are here to honor the event. I’m very happy with my first time, from Carnival and parading, they even managed to get clothes for me to parade as queen of drums”, commented the elderly woman.
