Fiat Strada leads the market in featured pickup trucks – 02/03/2023 – Eduardo Sodré

Fiat Strada and Chevrolet Onix led the automotive market in February. The compact pickup had 6,837 units sold, while the hatch ended the month with 6,084 registrations.

Third place is occupied by the sedan version of the Onix, which ended the month with 5,125 licenses. The Hyundai Creta SUV appears in fourth position (4,606), followed by another Fiat model, the Argo hatch (4,536).

The data were disclosed this Wednesday (1st) by the consulting firm Jato Dynamics and are based on the Renavam (National Register of Motor Vehicles).

Fiat’s leadership, however, may be threatened by another Chevrolet product: the direct competitor Chevrolet Montana, which is already being distributed on a large scale to dealerships.

Despite the influence of Carnival, February ended with 129,900 light and heavy vehicles registered. The daily average reached 7,219 units, a better result than that registered in January (6,493).

272,800 vehicles were sold in the first two months, an increase of 5.4% compared to the same period in 2022. The basis for comparison, however, is shallow. Last year, the months of February and March saw several interruptions in production lines due to lack of components.

Production continues at a resumption pace, but today’s problems involve rising product prices and high credit costs.

According to Jato Dynamics, the average ticket for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles increased by 1.6% in January, reaching R$ 148.8 thousand. The upward trend continued into February.

“It is a time of many launches of new products with updated year and model, which justifies, in a way, these increases”, says the statement released by the consultancy.

The arrival of high-value cars that were previously unseen in Brazil contributed to the rise in average prices. One of these models is the large Ford F-150 pickup, which starts at R$470,000.

The automaker made two batches of the model available for pre-sale. On February 14th, the first 250 units were sold in less than an hour. On the 16th, the second wave of 250 vehicles sold out in nine minutes.

The interest in the F-150 proves the appreciation of agribusiness for this type of vehicle. According to Ford, 45% of sales were concentrated in the Midwest region, followed by the Southeast (25%), South (22%) and North 9%).
