Fetam announces selections for the 17th edition of the Amazon Theater Festival

Manaus (AM) – The Amazonas Theater Federation (Fetam) released the shows selected for the 17th edition of the Amazon Theater Festival (FTA), which takes place from October 7th to 15th. The list of recipients is available at fetam.com.br.

15 productions were selected in the Jurupari exhibition and 10 in the non-competitive Ednelza Sahdo exhibition. This year, the FTA received a total of 216 applications for shows in both categories.

“The Amazon Theater Festival is in its 17th edition with an increasingly growing membership, which can be proven by the significant number of people registered for the shows”, says Marcos Apolo Muniz, Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy.

Marcos Apolo highlights that the event is consolidated as the biggest festival in the North of Brazil.

“It is an event that encourages the cultural movement, promotes performing arts in the state and, through training actions, provides the exchange of knowledge between artists from the states of the Legal Amazon and other regions of the country”, comments the holder of the portfolio .

Shows

The Jurupari exhibition included “Caê”, from Santa Catarina; “The Archipelago”, from Paraná; “Bertoldo, Study 1: The Shark Who Wanted to Be People”, from Amazonas; “Violento”, from Minas Gerais; “4,5,4,3…Um Passo Por Vez”, from São Paulo; “The Fabulous Meeting of the Clowns Piolin and Benjamim”, from São Paulo; “Desajustada”, from Santa Catarina; “São Jorge and the Dragon”, from Amazonas; “Sucrose”, from São Paulo; “The Monster Woman”, from Rio Grande do Norte; “The Wonderful Story of the Frog Tarot Beque”, from Amazonas; “Cabaré Chinelo”, from Amazonas; “Cordel do Amor Sem Fim”, from Roraima; “O Bode Quer”, from Ceará; and “Still Here”, from Rio de Janeiro.

In the non-competitive Ednelza Sahdo exhibition are “Vida Seca”, from Santa Catarina; “Contestados”, from Santa Catarina; “A Andarilha”, from São Paulo; “Desassossego”, from Amazonas; “Mar Acá”, from Roraima; “Andança da Morte e Dumzé”, from São Paulo; “The Man with the Cardboard Head”, from Amazonas; “Hamlet Cancelado”, from São Paulo; “Exemplos de Bastião”, from the Federal District; and “Chica Fulô de Mandacaru”, from Amapá.

The projects were analyzed by the selection committee, according to the criteria of artistic, technical and aesthetic quality; conception of the show; applicant’s CV or portfolio; and originality of the staging. The commission is made up of a representative of the board in the curatorial process, a servant from the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy and a federated representative on duty, without participation in shows.

“It is important for Brazilian theater to have an Amazonian festival, to facilitate a meeting between different dramaturgies, in the broadest sense, textual, corporal and cultural dramaturgy”, points out Karla Martins, an artist from Acre who is part of the FTA curatorship. “Brazil needs these meetings to expand the true ‘photography’ of Brazilian culture, where the gaze is decolonized, by recognizing itself in the diversity of existence.”

Wlad Lima, member of the curatorship, reinforces that the present time demands a political positioning of the theater against racism, discrimination and sociocultural phobias.

“The Amazon Theater is alive, very much alive through its own efforts and despite all the alienation inflicted on us by existing cultural devices”, defines the curator who represents Pará.

For Márcio Braz, a curator from Amazonas, the event is a place-territory of the many knowledge and practices of the Brazilian scene gathered in the region.

“Another Amazon Theater Festival, let it be a party, of love and democracy, lights and poetics”, highlights the artist.

Training actions

The workshops “Women of Culture – From Project to Fundraising”, by Rafaela Guimarães, were also selected; and “Oficina de Teatro Lambe”, by Gislaine Pozzeti.

In “Women of Culture – From the Project”, Rafaela Guimarães will offer expository classes based on three axes: cultural production as an active market in the city of Manaus; formalization and legalization of a cultural enterprise; and the Project, calls and fundraising.

Gislaine Pozzeti proposes the language of lambe-lambe theater for popularization and the expansion of multipliers in Amazonas. The content of the workshop includes the concept and nature of the Lambe-lambe Theater for the development of artistic processes in theaters: origin of the Lambe-lambe theater, techniques, theater, scenic elements, dramaturgy and materials.

Support team

Fetam also announced the results of the call for the support team during the festival. Among those selected are Anna Carolina Angelo, Ana Carol Souza, Jordânia Damasceno, Valderes Souza, Bárbara Passos, Willas Rodrigues, Sissy Mendes, Carol Calderaro, Leilane Batista, Vitor Lima, Ariel Kuma, Mariana Silva and Cairo Vasconcelos.

Festival

In addition to the shows included, five invited works will make up the FTA program, in addition to a dramaturgy competition, conversation circles, workshops, experiences in the periphery and a mediation project.

The activities will take place in spaces such as Teatro da Installação, Teatro Amazonas, Gebes Medeiros, Buia Teatro, Largo de São Sebastião, Centro Cultural Barravento, Escola Superior de Artes e Tourism (Esat), from the State University of Amazonas (UEA); and Casarão de Ideias.

The event is presented by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Culture, via the Federal Culture Incentive Law, with the support of the companies Nubank, WEG and the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy. The organization is signed by the Amazonas Theater Federation.
