FenaSaúde: Plans should close 2023 with record numbers – 12/29/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

Health plans in Brazil should close the year 2023 with 941 thousand new beneficiaries in the medical-hospital modality, reaching the mark of 51.1 million lives covered. If the projection is confirmed, the sector will have reached its highest number of users since 2000, the year in which the historical series began.

The estimate is from the National Supplementary Health Federation (FenaSaúde), an entity that represents the main groups of private plan and insurance operators in the segment in the country.

In December 2022, the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) counted 50.1 million beneficiaries. In September this year, the country had 50.8 million lives covered by health plans, according to the most recent balance released by the regulatory agency.

“The projected growth confirms the growing interest of Brazilians in the quality and security offered by private health plans, which has become even more acute since the pandemic [de Covid-19]”, says the executive director of FenaSaúde, Vera Valente.

“Also for this reason, it is very important to ensure the sustainability of supplementary health, with a consistent recovery of operational results, in order to preserve the sector and its relevance for the entire health service provision chain in the country”, adds the executive .

The projection made by FenaSaúde for 2023 takes into account the number of beneficiaries counted monthly between December 2018 and October 2022.
