Expodireto Cotrijal 2023 expects to move more than R$ 5 billion

In an event of the size achieved over more than two decades, this Monday (6th), in Porto Alegre, the 23rd Expodireto Cotrijal was launched. The exhibition of innovation, technologies and debates on the most exciting themes that permeate the agricultural sector, launched in 2000, promises to show all its strength from March 6th to 10th, in Não-Me-Toque (RS).

The ceremony, at the Hotel Deville, was honored by Governor Eduardo Leite and by a large number of state secretaries, in a sign of the importance and appreciation by the Executive. Federal and state parliamentarians, representations of participating countries and authorities also attended the launch of the fair, which was developed with agribusiness and which arrives with a focus on sustainability actions and the growth of rural producers.

This year, said the president of Expodireto, Nei César Manica, the fair will occupy an area of ​​131 hectares, 34% larger than in the previous edition. The readjustment was necessary to house the more than 580 exhibitors, the news and activities that can be seen during the five days of the event.

The traditional innovation show will also strengthen the debate on an old and increasingly current topic. With the drought once again present, the need to find ways to enable the construction of structures to store rainwater that is abundant in the autumn, winter and spring periods, but which is lacking at the height of the summer harvest, is back on the agenda.

“The improvement of environmental laws needs to advance in the National Congress so that we can continue to produce responsibly. Water retention in dams, dams and wells in the rainy months will allow for more production, employment and income in Rio Grande do Sul. Above all, we are producers committed to the development of the state and of Brazil”, said Manica.

The subject was mentioned by the president of the fair, by Eduardo Leite and also by the president of the Legislative Assembly, Vilmar Zanchin, and by the federal deputy Pedro Westphalen. The speeches converged on the idea that it is fundamental to resolve the equation between production and environmental preservation, embedded in the legal obstacles to the use of permanent preservation areas (APPs) for the construction of dams and dams on the producing properties.

Manica highlighted the responsibility of the fair regarding the improvement of legislation and also designed a large fair this year. “Our mission is to seek to increase productivity, but also without forgetting our responsibility towards the environment. Together we will again make a great exhibition”, he stressed.

Eduardo Leite emphasized Cotrijal’s initiative to give visibility to sustainable production. “The fair has the role of showing that, in addition to knowing how to do it, it has clarity in its proposal to add value to its production”, he said.

The governor also highlighted the need to give sustainable production due visibility in the markets.

“We know that agro is sustainable and that it seeks sustainability. But this is a value that is increasingly present and charged in the world. We need to be aligned so that agro can do carbon mitigation, best practices and soil and pasture management, for example. We need to know how to package our products and give them visibility to serve the most demanding markets. There are many commercial interests at stake between countries. The dispute for space with other nations for important markets is permanent”, she noted.

Leite revealed that the Chilean mission that was in the state in December to learn about the phytosanitary conditions and herd control gave approval for the opening of beef imports from Rio Grande do Sul to that country.

“In livestock, we prove the sanitary condition of free without vaccination. And Chile has just recognized our status, opening up new business opportunities”.

Leite added that Expodireto, in addition to promoting important debates, provides an opportunity to highlight the resilience of agriculture and continue to believe in the economy and future of Rio Grande do Sul.

Representing the Chamber of Deputies, deputy Pedro Westphalen pledged to propose actions to overcome bureaucratic problems related to environmental issues.

“The federal parliament has to get important issues for agribusiness moving forward, and the main agenda we have at the moment is irrigation”, he highlighted.

In his speech, Vilmar Zanchin also defended the improvement of environmental legislation to allow agribusiness, responsible for more than 40% of the state’s gross domestic product, to advance.

The program is being designed with emphasis on forums, public hearings and lectures focused on soy, corn, milk, soil and water conservation, in addition to the space dedicated to technology and innovation with the Agrodigital Arena, in its second year.

This year, there will be 60 delegations at Expodireto Cotrijal, from 5 continents, with an emphasis on Ghana, in Africa, from where 30 representations should come to the fair. Due to the interest of exhibitors and based on the results of previous editions of Expodireto Cotrijal, the expectation is that the 2023 show will receive an audience of over 260,000 people and move more than R$ 5 billion in business.
