Exhibition ‘Notes for the day after tomorrow’ opens this Wednesday at CCMQ’s Augusto Meyer Gallery

The conclusion exhibition of the 2nd Cycle of Platform Classes – Visual Arts will open this Wednesday at the Augusto Meyer Gallery at Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, an institution of the Secretary of State for Culture (Sedac). Notes for the Day After Tomorrow features works by 28 artists from the Macrs collection, a partner in the project, which is also a Sedac institution. The collective show, curated by the 19 participants of the course, used the anti-democratic acts of January 8 as the guide for this selection: “the chosen works present some Notes for the day after tomorrow, stressing the recent political and health crises through which the country passed, as well as the idea of ​​Brazil and our perspectives for the future”, reveal the student curators.

The exhibition was carried out collaboratively through the articulation of the different working groups formed in the class, such as curatorship, expography, production and educational proposals. In addition, the choice of artists was guided by the importance of gender equality, in dialogue with other shows already presented by Macrs. Notes for the Day After Tomorrow was followed up and guided by the project’s creator, manager, producer and curator, Jaqueline Beltrame, who graduated in Visual Arts at Ufrgs, and by researcher and curator Gabriela Motta, a partner of Plataforma since its first edition, who allowed students put into practice what they learned from the 13 online classes that formed the 2nd Cycle.

“Holding this exhibition as a result of Classes at Plataforma marks an important evolution of the project, created in 2021 with the aim of meeting a demand for training for new professionals who seek to work in exhibitions and visual arts projects. The class of this second cycle was formed by students with different experiences, with professionals already active in the visual arts, and others who are just starting out.

Carried out with resources from the Pro-Cultura RS FAC – Culture Support Fund, of the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and with the support of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rio Grande do Sul and the State Institute of Visual Arts (Ieavi), the 2nd Cycle of Classes offered free training allowing access to knowledge in the areas of curatorship, production, education, copyright, expography, art market, with the great differential being the holding of the exhibition at the end of the course. There were 20 free places, offered to residents of any city in Rio Grande do Sul. The meetings took place from November 2022 to January 2023.

“The exhibition Notes for the Day After Tomorrow is the exuberant result of a collaborative process of training, production and exchange of knowledge. Carried out in partnership with Macrs and Ieavi, which provided a collection and exhibition space for the proposal, this project fulfills the desire to we think of curatorship, production and educational activities as inseparable, seeking dialogue and collaboration between all stages of building a visual arts exhibition”, says Gabriela.

The list of lecturers included curator and researcher in visual arts Izis Abreu, art director, architect, researcher and doctoral student in Design at FAU-USP Isabel Xavier, artist, researcher and professor Felipe Caldas, lawyer active in the area of ​​law entertainment, copyright and intellectual property Patrícia Goulart, as well as Jaqueline Beltrame and Gabriela Motta.

Notes for the day after tomorrow is on display until March 19, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, on the 3rd floor of Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana (Rua dos Andradas, 736). In addition to promoting courses, Plataforma has an area for sharing online content such as critical texts, other art platforms, cultural projects and bibliography of the courses it promotes.
