Event offers free leisure, cultural and environmental education activities in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – With the theme “Virada da Amazônia”, the new edition of Virada Sustentável Manaus takes place next weekend, on the 4th and 5th of November, and will occupy the capital of Amazonas with an intense cultural program. More than 70 free activities will be held in nine neighborhoods of the city, including exhibitions, workshops, lectures, games and socio-environmental actions, with the aim of promoting the conservation of the environment and the Amazon biome.

Considered the largest sustainability event in Latin America, Virada Sustentável Manaus is held by the Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS), co-organized by Virada Sustentável Nacional and supported by the Creative Council, which has more than 60 Amazonian civil society organizations, as well as volunteers. .

According to the coordinator of Virada Sustentável Manaus and responsible for the FAS Sustainable Cities Agenda, Cristine Rescarolli, the program will move the city with activities and attractions from the Amazon to the Amazon.

“We will have large installations in Largo São Sebastião and other activities that aim to spread sustainability, taking place in all areas of the city”,

Among the highlights is the artistic installation “Eggcident” by Dutch artist Henk Hofstra, which draws attention to the current moment of global warming. The artist brings giant eggs, which are literally “being fried” on the sidewalks of Largo São Sebastião.

In addition, there will be a waste collection action at Marina do Davi, in partnership with the Remada Ambiental project; environmental walk in Ponta das Lajes; planting and distribution of seedlings; cleaning effort; gastronomic workshops; Environmental Drive Thru; exhibitions; theater and dance performances; lectures and games; handicraft fair; and the now traditional Fair of the Sustainable Amazon Foundation, the “FAS Fair”, which will take place at Largo São Sebastião, from 4pm to 10pm.

Virada Sustentável Manaus is implemented with resources from the Culture Incentive Law, through the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the United Nations (UN). Furthermore, it has support from Bemol, Águas de Manaus, Innova, the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, and the City of Manaus, through the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability.
