Eletrobras selection process is suspended after controversy – 04/13/2023 – Market

Eletrobras temporarily canceled a selection process for hiring professionals for its subsidiaries, after the company broke the contract with the startup Taqe, responsible for recruitment. The test contained questions that were the subject of complaints for content considered ideological.

According to Aeel (Association of Eletrobras Employees), the test made available by the application had questions involving the arrest of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Lava Jato operation.

Another question also made a comparison of the number of ministries in the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) with that of previous terms.

When contacted, Taqe said the test was out of date. According to the recruiter, the questions were asked in 2020 and sought to measure the candidates’ knowledge of topics present in the country’s news.

The workers’ association asked the board to immediately break the contract and return the amounts paid.

The selection launched on April 5 was for hiring 351 people, out of a total of 800 vacancies. The posts were for careers at medium-technical and higher levels, for CGT Eletrosul, Chesf, Eleronorte and Furnas. This would be the first hiring since the privatization of the company.

Contestants were asked “the reason for the conviction of former president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2018”. Among the response options were “receiving a luxury apartment in Guarujá (SP) as a bribe in the Lava Jato operation”, “Corruption and money laundering in the Lava Jato operation” and “conspiracy in the Lava Jato operation”.

In a note, Aeel says that the question makes clear the ideological tendency of the contracted company and the entity considers it a direct affront to the decisions of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) on the condemnation of President Lula.

Another question made a comparison between the number of ministries in different governments. “Jair Bolsonaro’s government has a reduced number of ministries compared to previous ones. There are 23 current portfolios, against 27 under Michel Temer’s mandate and 35 under Dilma Rousseff. The reduction was obtained through mergers and changes in competences, such as the creation of super ministries. What are the super ministries created?”

“The country needs to demonetize the channels that propagate misinformation, fake news, radicalism, disrespect for democracy and institutions and exhibitors of hate speech, elements harmful to society that are noticeable in the Taqe application”, says the note from Aeel.

Also in a note, Eletrobras informs that the ongoing selection process was temporarily canceled, due to the need to terminate the contract with the company Taqe, responsible for the recruitment and selection process.

“The company became aware that the tests involved inappropriate questions, which goes against its values ​​and the principles defended in its codes and regulations, being a conduct, therefore, inadmissible.”

The company also publicly expresses its apologies to all professionals who signed up for the selection process and advises them to be aware of its communication channels, which will bring information as soon as it is reopened.

Sought after, Taqe informs that the questions are part of a general knowledge test and were formulated in 2020 based on the information available at the time and only measure the degree of knowledge of candidates on topics present in the country’s news, without any preference political or ideological bias.

“Due to human error, the test has not been updated since then. We apologize for this and inform you that the questionnaire has already been deleted from our database. However, it should be clarified that this test was used in only 0.13% of all tens of thousands of jobs we’ve worked on since its formulation.”
