Manaus (AM) — Proving that carnival revelry has no age, a group of 80 people, including elderly people enrolled in the Open University Foundation for the Third Age (FUNATI) and their families, paraded in the wing of the Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Reino Unido da Liberdade, on the night of Saturday (18), at the Prof. Gilberto Mestrinho — Manaus Sambadrome.
With a plot that paid homage to the trajectory of the artist Zezinho Corrêa, the group paraded in the wing “A Força e o Politics da Fé”, responsible for portraying the religiosity of the Amazonian singer.
The partnership between FUnATI and the United Kingdom began at Carnival 2020, when the school took to the Sambódromo the theme “Tourism: Amazonas with open arms to the world, a fantastic journey!”, as reported by teacher Socorro Gomes, from the Gerontourism workshop , responsible for the ward.
“The important thing is to make them feel good, happy. We’ve been rehearsing since the beginning of the year.”
he said.
The school’s communication director, Leonardo Fierro, emphasized that the partnership with FUNATI is important to motivate the players on the avenue.
“We have a great affection for the elderly, especially those from FUNATI, who are very active in our rehearsals, they make a point of participating in the parade always with great animation, giving a true lesson in good living”,
stated.
Vitality
Enedina Antunes, 73, a Gerontourism student at FUnATI, celebrated her return to the Sambadrome after two years without parades open to the public.
“I’ve been at FUNATI for six years, doing various activities, including currently participating in the Gerontourism workshop with Professor Socorro Gomes. I paraded in the last Carnival and now I’m coming back with a lot of emotion, a lot of desire to play samba in good health, thank God”, she said with emotion.
