MIS, the Museum of Image and Sound, screens the film “Ecstasy” (2020), directed by Moara Passoni, for free next Tuesday (11), at 7 pm, as part of the Cycle of Cinema and Psychoanalysis. With support from Sheetthe event is held in partnership with SBPSP (Sociedade Brasileira de Psicanálise de São Paulo) and, in this edition, with Descoloniza Filmes.
Inspired by experiences lived by the director herself and by other women who had eating disorders, the film tells Clara’s story during the period when the young woman suffered from anorexia, from 7 to 17 years old. To deal with feelings such as vulnerability and fear, the protagonist creates a parallel world in which she manages to control emotions and deprive herself of food, pushing her body to the limit until the delirium is interrupted.
With the autofiction, Moara was the only Brazilian selected for the Doc Fortnight festival, by MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, held in March 2021. Alongside filmmaker Petra Costa, who acts as a producer on “Êxtase”, she is a screenwriter and associate producer of the documentary “The Edge of Democracy”, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2020.
With the mediation of the psychoanalyst Luciana Saddi, the edition has the participation of the director Moara Passoni and the psychoanalyst Marina Ramalho Miranda, effective member of the SBPSP. The event takes place at the MIS auditorium (Avenida Europa, 158, in the west zone of São Paulo), and tickets are available at the box office one hour in advance.
