Economist Laura Müller Machado, 35, debuts this Friday (2nd) as a columnist at Sheet. The texts will be published every two weeks on the website, always on Fridays.
Master in Applied Economics from USP, Laura specialized in using evidence to improve the quality of public spending in the areas of education, social development, hunger, income distribution and poverty.
Based on the analysis of public data studied in recent years, the column will deal with social policy. “We are going to describe and interpret the evidence with the objective of contributing to the improvement of social policy”, says the economist.
Laura is a professor at Insper and coordinates graduate programs in public management. She was Secretary of Social Development for the State of São Paulo in 2022, during the management of former Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB).
She is the author of “Legacy of a pandemic: 26 voices talk about lessons learned for public policy” and co-author of three other books: “Guidelines for the Design of a Policy for Overcoming Poverty”, written with economist Ricardo Paes de Barros, “Consequences of the violation of the right to education”, with Barros, Samuel Franco, Daiane Zanon and Grazielly Rocha, and “Special study on literacy and socio-emotional skills in the Brazilian adult population”.
