Easter strike makes British cancel flights, Brazil included – 03/27/2023 – Market

A massive and lengthy strike is set to take place in London, specifically affecting British Airways and its flights.

The UK flag carrier was warned today that 1,400 security and baggage workers at Terminal 5, its private terminal at London Heathrow Airport, will be on a major strike. The forecast, according to the BBC, is to start next Friday, March 31, and last until April 9, Easter Holiday.

The decision was taken by the local union after negotiations for a salary increase did not go through.

To avoid further chaos, some employees from the other three terminals must be relocated to Terminal 5, but there is no guarantee of minimum operation. British has already been notified to reduce scheduled flights for the week of the strike by at least 5%, in addition to suspending ticket sales.

On the British Airways website, there are no direct flights on the London — São Paulo route, only on the 31st, 1st, 2nd and 5th, while for the London — Rio route there are no ticket options for the 31st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Even so, options are offered with a connection in Madrid with Iberia. It is recommended that passengers frequently check the status of their flight on the British website.
