Next Saturday, April 1st, the Centro Histórico Cultural da Santa Casa, in partnership with the French Alliance, welcomes Marie-Monique Robin to Porto Alegre for the launch of her latest film, “Afactoria de pandemices”, a production that features actress Juliette Binoche as a spokesperson and bridge between the scientists and citizens involved in making the documentary.
According to Robin’s investigation, deforestation contributes to the emergence of new infectious diseases because animals carrying these pathogens are forced to move and approach industrial farms and regions where humans live.
These animals also travel around the world as a result of globalization and imports, carrying the virus with them to new environments. Scientists are categorical: human predatory activity will cause an epidemic of pandemics in the coming years that will culminate in chronic confinement.
According to a study published in the journal Nature, this is one of the reasons for the lower lethality rate of the Covid-19 pandemic in rural areas of countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America compared to large centers and western capitals.
After the screening, there will be a chat between French director Marie-Monique Robin and guest Ana Luíza Azevedo, filmmaker from Rio Grande do Sul, with simultaneous translation and open to the public.
