Diesel price at service stations falls for the twelfth week – 04/28/2023 – Market

The average price of diesel in the country fell for the 12th week in a row, according to the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels). This week, diesel S-10 was sold at R$ 5.77 per liter, R$ 0.02 less than the previous week.

Fuel should continue on a downward trajectory, with transfers of the 9.9% cut in the selling price by Petrobras, announced this Friday (28). The reduction will more than offset the increase in the ICMS rate as of May 1st.

The downward cycle in diesel prices reflects price cuts made at refineries during the year, following the international scenario of relief in international fuel prices, which skyrocketed after the start of the War in Ukraine, in 2022.

In June 2022, the product reached a record average price of BRL 7.75 per liter, almost BRL 2 more than the current value. Now, it returns to pre-war levels: in January 2022, it was sold between R$ 5.70 and R$ 5.80, in values ​​​​adjusted for inflation.

According to the ANP, the price of gasoline was stable during the week, at R$ 5.51 per liter. This product will have the ICMS changed on June 1st, with the expectation of high pressure at the pumps, since the new rate of R$ 1.22 per liter is higher than that currently charged in almost all states.

Also affected by the ICMS change, cooking gas was stable this week, at R$ 107.54 per 13-kilogram cylinder. With the new single national rate, the state tax rises, on average, by R$ 1.74 per canister.

The variation, however, is different between states. Those who had lower fuel tax will have greater impact. According to Sindigás, the ICMS rate rises more in Mato Grosso do Sul (R$ 7.49 per cylinder), Sergipe (R$ 5.88) and Amapá (R$ 4.98).

In São Paulo, consumers will pay an additional R$3.62 per bottle. In Rio de Janeiro, the high is R$ 4.91. In Acre, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina, the impact is negative, down by R$0.24, R$3.76 and R$4.39, respectively.

The price of hydrated ethanol rose 3% at the pumps, to R$ 4.10 per liter, informed the ANP. It is the biggest since August 2022, in inflation-adjusted values.
