The deputy leader of the Lula government in the Chamber, deputy José Nelto (PP-GO), criticized the provisional measure presented by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, which gradually reburdens the payroll of 17 sectors of the economy. Nelto stated that he will act to overturn the proposal if the president of Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), does not return it to the government.
If the provisional measure is returned, it will lose its effectiveness. “This measure is unconstitutional. I will act to reestablish the government’s credibility with society, a relationship that has already been damaged by this affront to the National Congress and the productive class. If Pacheco does not return it, we will work to overturn it or for it to expire”, said the vice-leader, in a statement.
Opposition parliamentarians and entities from the affected segments defend the return of the proposal. Pacheco has already announced that he will only decide on the issue after meeting with party leaders. The date has not yet been set, but is expected to take place in the next few days.
Nelto, who is also vice-leader of the União, PP, PSDB Federation, Cidadania, PDT, PSB, Avante, Solidariedade and Patriota bloc, also said that the MP made Haddad’s performance “fall into discredit”. The proposal was seen as an affront to the decision of Congress, which approved the extension of the exemption until 2027. The 7 sectors employ more than 9 million people and consider that the MP will bring “legal uncertainty” to companies and workers.
