The city of Dourados (MS) begins distributing this Wednesday (3) the first doses of the Qdenga vaccine — manufactured by the Takeda laboratory — against dengue.
As soon as they receive the vaccine, UBSs (Basic Health Units) in the municipality will be able to start vaccination.
The action in Dourados is the result of a partnership between the city hall and the pharmaceutical company.
Initially, 150,000 residents aged 4 to 59 will be vaccinated. To take the vaccine, simply go to the nearest health unit with identification documents and a SUS (Unified Health System) card.
The vaccine provides complete immunity after the second dose, which must be administered at an interval of three months. The immunizer reduces cases and, especially, hospitalization for dengue.
The laboratory has already delivered around 90 thousand doses to the Dourados Municipal Health Department. Another 70,000 will be sent by the end of January. The quantity is sufficient to apply the first dose to the population.
On December 21, the Ministry of Health announced the incorporation of the dengue vaccine into the SUS. The agency has not yet released vaccination strategies in the country.
Due to the restricted capacity to supply doses by the pharmaceutical company Takeda, the action will be aimed at the public and priority regions.
According to the Dourados arbovirus epidemiological bulletin, from January 1st to December 23rd, 2023, the city recorded 1,539 cases of dengue with five deaths. The number of cases is higher than confirmed in the entire year 2022, which totaled 916 and one death.
