Dengue cases rise 307% in Rede D’Or hospitals – 01/25/2024 – Mônica Bergamo

Rede D’Or hospitals located in five Brazilian states recorded, this month of January, an average increase of 307% in the number of patients who received a diagnosis of dengue, compared to the same period in 2023. The services took place in Rio de January, in São Paulo, Paraná, Sergipe and the Federal District.

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, the highest proportional increase was recorded at Hospital Rios D’Or, in Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of the capital. The unit saw a 2,300% increase in the number of patients with the disease treated this month, compared to the same period last year.

In Barra D’Or, the total number of confirmed cases rose by 1,250%, while at Hospital Bangu there was an increase of 1,050%, and in Copa D’Or, 500%. All are located in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

There were also increases in the number of dengue cases in patients treated at the Norte D’Or hospitals (690%), in Cascadura, at the Samer Hospital (1040%), in Resende, and Oeste D’Or (126%), in Campo Big.

“The growth is significant. It is a worrying indicator, especially if the circulation of serotype 3 is recorded, as has been seen in some cities, which increases the number of people susceptible to the disease”, says infectologist David Uip, national director of Infectious Diseases at Rede D’Or.

“This did not happen 15 years ago. The risk of continued growth in the number of cases in the coming months is real. People who have had dengue in the past may present more severe symptoms”, says the former state secretary of Health of São Paulo .

In São Paulo, in the capital and in the metropolitan region, the network’s hospitals registered an average increase of 443% in dengue diagnoses between the 1st and 20th of this month, compared to last year.

The biggest proportional jump was seen at the São Luiz Anália Franco unit, in the east of the capital, with an 833% increase in the number of patients with the disease. In the Morumbi (west zone) and Itaim (south zone) units, the index rose 520% ​​and 385%, respectively.

At the network’s hospital in São Caetano, in ABC Paulista, the total number of confirmed cases increased by 675%. At the Jabaquara unit the increase was 266%, and at Osasco, 245%.

The network’s health units in the Federal District recorded an average growth of 107% in the number of dengue patients this year. The biggest proportional increase was seen in DF Star, with 173% more cases of the disease in the period analyzed.

At Hospital Santa Luzia, the total number of confirmed cases rose by 146%, while at Santa Helena there was an increase of 55%.

According to the survey, there was a 200% increase in care for dengue patients at Hospital São Lucas, in Sergipe, in the same period analyzed. Santa Cruz Hospital, in Paraná, which did not treat any cases of the disease in January 2023, started to receive people with dengue this year.

In the network’s hospital services located in Bahia and Pernambuco, there was, in general, a drop in visits. The only exception is the Hospital Cardio Pulmonar, in Salvador, which registered a 133% increase in the number of patients with dengue.
