Dead at the age of 82, Antônio Pedro will be cremated this Monday, in Rio

Died last Sunday, the 12th, at the age of 82, actor and director Antônio Pedro will be cremated this Monday, the 13th, at 3:30 pm at the Penitência Crematorium and Cemetery, in Caju, in the North Zone of Rio. The wake is restricted to close friends and family.

With a long career in comedy shows and in the theater, the artist had been hospitalized since January with kidney and heart failure and died early on Sunday. The information was confirmed by the eldest daughters, actresses Alice Borges and Ana Baird, who paid tribute on social networks.

“He lived his life intensely. His legacy is enormous, perhaps the general public does not have the true dimension of his greatness within his 1m and 57cm! Man of the Theater, complete artist, he knew EVERYTHING. Intelligent, cultured, wise, master! But he did not burp these virtues, on the contrary, he shared his wisdom without solemnity, at the bar table, surrounded by friends and always with a lot of humor. A convinced socialist, he embarked on politics as the first secretary of Culture in RJ. He always worked for the collective, he founded several theater groups. He was present at all the important moments of the Brazilian theater scene. He marked his presence in cinema and television A father out of the curve who passed on values ​​and principles of honesty, ethics, generosity, empathy and a little bit of his talent. .. I grew up in a backstage theater and learned a lot from him. I hope to honor the learning because I will always be an actress and director, daughter of Antonio Pedro”, wrote Alice.

Antônio Pedro also leaves his wife and son Fábio, 17 years old.

In his long career, Antônio Pedro has done dozens of works on television, cinema and theater. His most recent role on TV was the series “Filhas de Eva”, (2021). Already in cinema, he participated in the feature “DPA – Detectives of the Blue Building 2 – The Italian Mystery” (2018).

Next Thursday (16), the actor will be celebrated at the Rio de Janeiro 2023 edition of the Humor Award, at Teatro XP, at the Jockey Club in Rio de Janeiro. The award was created by comedian Fabio Porchat to encourage and register the importance of essential names in Brazilian comedy, “who made us get here”, says Porchat. The tribute was already scheduled before Antônio Pedro’s death. During the actor’s stay in the hospital, Porchat had the opportunity to hand him the trophy.

The artist was also active in politics. Affiliated to the Democratic Labor Party (PDT) for years, he was appointed, in 1986, the first Municipal Secretary of Culture of Rio de Janeiro, the same position he would occupy in the municipality of Volta Redonda three years later. In 1990, he was a candidate for state deputy for the party, but failed to get elected.
