The Chamber installed this Tuesday (13) a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) that aims to investigate financial pyramid schemes using cryptocurrencies, reported the Câmara de Notícias Agency.
The CPI intends to investigate digital currency fraud that would have been committed by 11 companies, according to the CVM (Securities Commission).
Also according to Agência Câmara, these companies would have disclosed false information about projects and promises of high or guaranteed profitability to attract victims and support the pyramid scheme.
The CPI will have 120 days to carry out its work, informs the agency, a period that can be extended for another 60 days, if that is the will of 1/3 of the deputies.
The author of the application for the creation of the CPI, deputy Aureo Ribeiro (Solidariedade-RJ), was elected president of the collegiate during the installation this Tuesday.
“This CPI is not intended to stifle the development of the crypto market or create a hostile environment for technological innovations,” explained Ribeiro, according to Agência Câmara de Notícias.
“On the contrary: we seek to foster a safe and healthy environment where the potential of cryptocurrencies can be exploited while protecting investors and preventing criminals from benefiting from the opportunities offered by the sector.”
