Croma Beer reinforces expertise with barrel aged beers – 03/11/2023 – Copo Cheio

Fans (and there are many) of Bourbon County, Goose Island’s annual beer, can find another very pleasant home at Croma Beer, a brewpub in Vila Madalena.
The brewery has 20 styles on tap and many other options in the fridge, in cans or bottles. But among pilsens, sours, barley wines, IPAs and the like, barrel aged is always well represented.
Since 2019, the brewery has created 549 labels; and 59 of them were barrel aged, more than 10% of the releases. “It’s an aspect that we started to invest in since the creation [do bar] and it worked very well”, says Rodrigo Nogueira, owner of Croma.
Just as Goose Island releases Bourbon County (beer aged in a bourbon barrel) once a season, Croma began releasing Ynfynyty annually. The 2023 version is the third edition of the beer, with 12% alcohol.
In common, both are imperial stouts aged in bourbon barrels. But Croma made a single barrel (that is, it used a single barrel) of Heaven Hill bourbon — Bourbon County mixed barrels from four different distilleries, including Heaven Hill, to arrive at the BC 2022 result. “Goose’s Bourbon County It’s a global reference for the style and for us”, confesses Rodrigo, who was present at the most recent launch of Goose’s beer.
For the owner and brewer, “Ynfynyty 2023 has a bigger body and a little lower carbonation. The Heaven Hill barrel brought notes of coconut and chocolate. It was a little liqueur”, he says, about the beer, which was aged for 18 months in the barrel.
Launched in a limited edition, in elegant 375 ml bottles, Ynfynyty 2023 is now over. But the 2022 version has just been hitched to the brewpub, flanked by around 60 barrels, in which beers of different styles are aged. And there are other aged bottles in the fridge, just ask.
