Covid: SP vaccinates children from 6 months on this Thursday – 02/01/2023 – Health

The Municipal Secretary of Health of São Paulo announced, this Wednesday (1st), that it will start vaccinating against Covid for all children aged 6 months to less than 3 years old as of Thursday (2nd).

Immunization in this age group will be done with doses of Pfizer baby, vaccine from the manufacturer Pfizer indicated for the younger public.

In addition to the first and second doses in babies, the capital will also start vaccination with a booster dose in children aged 5 to 11 years.

According to the secretary, the capital received new batches last Tuesday (31) that will enable the immunization of all age groups of children throughout the municipal network. A total of 768,000 doses of Pfizer, including Pfizer baby and the pediatric vaccine, were delivered to the municipality as part of the National and State Immunization Programs (PNI and PEI).

According to the City Hall, the expected target audience is 367,439 children aged 6 months to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days. As for the older ones, there are 812,426 children aged 5 to 11 in the capital.

The Ministry of Health approved, on December 27th, the inclusion of all children aged 6 months to 4 years for vaccination against Covid with Pfizer. Before, only those with comorbidities, indigenous or quilombola were authorized to receive the immunizer.

For children aged 3 to 5 years, there was already the possibility of immunizing themselves with the Coronavac, but the lack of immunization in several capitals was making the vaccination campaign for the little ones difficult.

Regarding the booster dose, Anvisa and the Ministry of Health included in the Pfizer leaflet the indication for children aged 5 to 11 years on the last day 4. Before, only adolescents aged 12 to 17 years and adults over 18 years old could receive boosters from the immunizer.

According to the São Paulo City Hall, until last Tuesday (31) 32,019 doses had been applied, with 24,810 first doses and 7,209 second doses, in children aged 6 months to less than 3 years with comorbidities, permanent disability or indigenous people, as well as in those who do not have these conditions but were enrolled in the xepa.
