Covid: Health says it can no longer make mistakes – 03/28/2023 – Health

The Ministry of Health said this Tuesday afternoon (28) that its priority is to increase vaccination coverage against Covid. The announcement was made shortly after the release of data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) showing that the country reached, last week, the mark of 700,239 deaths from the disease.

The holder of the portfolio, Nísia Trindade, said in a note that the moment is for “national mobilization” in favor of the vaccine.

“Right now, we are vaccinating with a booster dose against Covid-19. We have to look to the past, but, at the same time, state that the Ministry of Health can no longer make the mistake of not coordinating, of not caring, of not treating”, he said.

The ministry is responsible for campaigns for yet another booster vaccination, now with the bivalent vaccine, which provides greater protection against the omicron variant. This strain is responsible for most cases in Brazil and worldwide.

According to the ministry, more than 6 million bivalent doses have already been applied. The model is not intended for everyone, but only for the public at greater risk of developing serious conditions due to the infection caused by Sars-CoV-2.

In addition to the bivalent vaccine, the ministry seeks to increase coverage with the monovalent vaccine, intended for the general population.

The ministry points out that vaccination is the main tool to prevent deaths and seriousness from Covid. Scientific research, including those used to authorize the use of immunizers in Brazil, concluded the efficacy and safety of drugs.

Last week, Brazil reached the accumulated number of 700,239 deaths from Covid-19, according to the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass).

The milestone brings a change in the profile of mortality from the disease compared to other periods, with a higher proportion of deaths now in people over 80 and immunosuppressed, for example.
