Contests: federal government announces new vacancies; see which ones – 06/16/2023 – Market

The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced this Friday (16) the opening of new public tenders for federal bodies later this year. The goal is to fill 4,436 vacancies, which will include 20 ministries.

The list includes 120 vacancies at Inpi (National Institute of Industrial Property) and 100 at Inmetro. The number of vacancies for these bodies was anticipated on Twitter by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services.

The Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, will give a press conference this afternoon to detail the numbers.

Filling vacancies in the public service is a promise of the president, defender of the measure to replace positions and fill gaps resulting from the lack of hiring in recent years. In April, the petista said that it is necessary “to have people behind the counter”.

The resumption of competitions reverses the shrinking trend in the number of active employees observed in recent years, in the face of a cost containment policy. The measure, defended by the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, was criticized by a number of experts and society who saw the precariousness of service provision.

In 2023, the government had already authorized the filling of 9,585 vacancies in the federal public administration, contemplating bodies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), MMA (Ministry of the Environment), Funai (Foundation of Indigenous Peoples ) and MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation).

Of these vacancies, 1,444 are for effective positions, and the remaining 8,141 are temporary to meet IBGE’s demand with the activities of the Population Census.

As shown to Sheetthe Lula government is also considering changing the rules for public tenders to incorporate additional instruments for assessing candidates, such as psychometric tests, and allowing the use of technology in some phases or throughout the selection process.

The Executive’s assessment is that this could improve candidates’ access, increase competition, provide legal certainty and allow the government to select its employees more effectively.

The intention is to support the discussion of a bill that has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and is awaiting consideration by the Federal Senate. The topic has been dealt with in internal meetings at the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services and is part of a list of actions that the portfolio intends to put in motion in the coming months, which includes a new law on quotas in public tenders.
