Confidence of businessmen plummets in January – 01/30/2023 – Panel SA

The trade entrepreneur confidence index, measured by FecomercioSP, dropped 4.4% in January compared to the previous month. It was the second consecutive decline in the indicator.
In the annual comparison, the reduction reaches almost 5%.
For FecomercioSP, the result was caused by factors such as high household debt, high interest rates, inflationary pressure and signs of economic policy in the Lula government.
The entity also points to a drop in the intention to expand business and in the level of investment by companies. The two markers had a monthly decrease of 6.1% and 23%, respectively, in January.
The expectation for hiring employees, in turn, rose 1.3% this month, according to FecomercioSP.
