Climate: cities in Brazil seek BRL 14 billion in projects – 05/17/2023 – Panel SA

A hundred Brazilian city halls reported 193 projects to attract investments in climate projects last year, moving a total of R$ 14 billion in resources.
The data are part of a CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) report, an organization that helps companies and governments to disclose their environmental performance.
The report also shows that, in the case of projects aimed at improving energy in cities, the prospect of generating wealth will be nearly R$ 3 trillion, generating the creation of 2 million jobs.
These initiatives involve renewing the electric vehicle fleet and infrastructure for electromobility, for example.
The CDP states that of the total project portfolio, most still depend on public funding. Only 21% of the initiatives contemplate fundraising with more than one type of financial instrument, such as debt, loans, participation or donation.
According to the CDP, 105 cities responded to the entity’s environmental funding radar last year —11 cities more than in 2021. Most initiatives are concentrated in three sectors: waste management (27% of projects), waste management water (12%) and transportation (11%).
More than half of these projects are in the planning and pre-implementation phase. For CDP, this indicates that they can still be changed and incorporate funding attractiveness methods.
