♪ When selling the LP reissue of the album Claridade, made available this week, the Universal Music label makes the mistake of nailing right at the beginning of the promotional text that the popular consecration of Clara Nunes (August 12, 1942 – April 2, 1983) came with this album released in 1975. Strictly speaking, Claridade was the album that consolidated the massive success achieved by the singer from Minas Gerais with her previous studio album, Alvorecer (1974), from which came the resounding success Conto de sand (Romildo Bastos and Toninho Nascimento, 1974). Claridade was Clara Nunes’ fifth studio album after the aesthetic turn idealized by radio host and music producer Adelzon Alves in 1971. It was when the singer joined samba. With two great hits, O mar serenou (Candeia, 1975) and A goddess dos orixás (Romildo Bastos and Toninho Nascimento, 1975), Claridade was also a transitional album in Clara Nunes’ career, bridging the gap between the era of Adelzon Alves as the singer’s music producer and the reign of Paulo César Pinheiro in the role, a phase that lasted from 1976 until the end of the artist’s life. With production orchestrated by Renato Correa under the supervision of Milton Miranda, then all-powerful of the Odeon label, the album Claridade symbolized peak sales and popularity in Clara Nunes’ discography. The repertoire is flawless and, in addition to the two hits, includes the lapidary re-recordings of Sofrimento de quem ama (Alberto Lonato, 1970) and Juízo Final (Nelson Cavaquinho and Élcio Soares, 1973). Among the unpublished songs, there is Bafo de boca (João Nogueira and Paulo César Pinheiro, 1975), Valsa do realejo (Paulo César Pinheiro and Guinga. 1975), The last block (Candeia, 1975), Vai amor (Monarco and Walter Rosa, 1975), May you be very happy (Cartola, 1975), Nobody has to think it’s bad (Ismael Silva, 1975) and Sometimes it’s good to cry (Ivor Lancelloti, 1975). 48 years after the original LP edition, the Claridade album returns to the physical catalog in an edition made of translucent white vinyl.
