City Hall promotes Baby Week event in Manauara health unit in Crespo

This Friday (18), the City Hall of Manaus promotes an action to raise awareness of society around early childhood care. The activity will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Frank Calderon Family Health Unit (USF), in the Crespo neighborhood, south zone, and will have conversation circles and lectures for users and community members.

The head of the Center for Child and Adolescent Health Care at Semsa, Janaína Sá Terra, reports that Semsa has been carrying out actions for Baby Week in Manauara, through its five Health Districts (Disas). “The Week was instituted by Municipal Law nº 2.228, of July 3, 2017, with the objective of encouraging a better childhood and the protection of children from 0 to 6 years of age in Manaus”informs the manager.

The agenda began on August 1st, at a health unit in Disa Leste, coinciding with the opening of the Agosto Dourado campaign to encourage breastfeeding, and continued on the 11th, in basic units at Disas Oeste and Norte. After this Friday’s action, the week’s schedule will end with an event in the Disa Rural area.

“Actions include lectures and conversation circles with professionals from the technical areas of each district, such as oral health, women’s health and children’s health, who come together to provide the community with guidance within each area related to early childhood”,

points Janaina.

Along these lines, health education activities will focus on topics such as oral hygiene care, vaccination and healthy eating for babies and children, in addition to the importance of prenatal care for pregnant women. Professionals from Disa Sul will also deal with the role of breastfeeding for the development of children, within the theme of Golden August.

“Breast milk has all the nutrients that the child needs, and provides him with more health and better physical and intellectual development, in addition to preventing diseases”, says Janaína, advising that mother’s milk should be exclusive in the baby’s nutrition up to 6 months of life, and complement the diet at least until 2 years of age.

Still within the program of the Golden August campaign, Semsa Manaus promoted, on the morning of this Thursday (17th), a meeting of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Having as theme “Breastfeeding: a source of life and health and the right of women and children”the event took place at the USF Leonor de Freitas, in the Compensa neighborhood, West zone.

The meeting was attended by members of the groups Sermãe, which brings together pregnant women, and Growing Healthy, with nursing mothers and their babies. The activities were carried out by health teams from Leonor de Freitas, alongside teachers and pedagogues from the Ana Lopes Pereira municipal nursery, also located in the Compensa neighborhood.
